In Bouwlust, which was published in 1999, Theo Baart was inquiring into the consequences for an existing culture of a change in the use of a piece of land. Over a period of twenty years he followed the transformation of the agrarian surroundings of ‘his village’ Hoofddorp, situated a stone’s throw from Schiphol Airport, into an endless suburban landscape.
